queensland Is this a type of bream?

I have been catching a fair few of thse recently when cast netting in the brisbane river looking for herring , can anyone tell me what they are ? and are they of any use as bait? I just throw them back as I a have no idea but on sunday I got heaps of them ranging in size from 5-15cm

I thought Biddies had a more upturned mouth Kriso?

Then again, the ones I get in the net are generally very small, only up to 5cm or so

As kriso said, silver biddies. Although you can almost see how some people can get confused, like one member of the public who was trying 'educate' me on keeping undersize bream from my castnet.

That would of been a fun conversation shmuck. :laugh: Though, even I can see the resemblence, juvenile bream are more deep bodied though

Very common in the north and called a mud herring locally. much better livie than greenback herring I reckon because 10 times hardier, greenback herring are so fragile you just have to give them a dirty look and they die on you!
