SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING - SOUTHEAST QUEENSLAND

for DAMAGING WIND and LARGE HAILSTONES

For people in the BRISBANE CITY, GOLD COAST CITY, LOGAN CITY, IPSWICH CITY, SCENIC RIM, REDLAND CITY, North Stradbroke Island and parts of the LOCKYER VALLEY, MORETON BAY and SOMERSET Council Areas.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 9:45 pm, a line of severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar from Esk to near Beaudesert and then to Springbrook. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. They are forecast to affect Beaudesert, Fernvale, Mount Nebo, Lake Wivenhoe and the D'Aguilar Ranges by 10:15 pm and Brisbane CBD, Coolangatta, Beenleigh, Logan City, Strathpine and Dayboro by 10:45 pm.

Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely.

A wind gust of 100km/hr was observed at Oakey Airport at 8:40pm.

Emergency Management Queensland advises that people should:

* Move your car under cover or away from trees.

* Secure loose outdoor items.

* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.

* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.

* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.

* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

The next warning is due to be issued by 10:50 pm.

A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Southeast Coast and parts of the Herbert and Lower Burdekin, Central Coast and Whitsundays, Wide Bay and Burnett and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts.

Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 219. The Bureau and Emergency Management Queensland would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

I just went to the window, and yelled out to my house mate "storms judt hit Moggil".. so we're both standing at the window looking at not much. Then there was a small gust.. then a bigger gust, now she's blowing like a beast. Was cool to watch it all unfold like that.
