No BoM severe thunderstorm warnings out…but,

People around the Sunny Coast,Brisbane, Ipswich, Gold Coast areas may want to keep an eye on their weather sites this arvo..

BoMs`Thunderstorm Tracker is showing thunderstorms kicking in around the scenic Rim,Lockyer Valley and Laidley/Ipswich areas

Just had rolling thunder and burst of large raindrops in Ipswich

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING - SOUTHEAST QUEENSLAND

for DAMAGING WIND

For people in parts of the BRISBANE CITY, LOCKYER VALLEY, IPSWICH CITY, DALBY, SOMERSET, SOUTH BURNETT and TOOWOOMBA Council Areas.

Issued at 5:14 pm Friday, 3 January 2014.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 5:05 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Laidley, the area northeast of Dalby and the area east of Dalby. These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast. They are forecast to affect Fernvale, Oakey and Bell by 5:35 pm and the area northwest of Toowoomba, Haden and Bunya Mountains by 6:05 pm.

Damaging winds are likely.

A wind gust of 98km/h was reported at Miles at 4:15pm

At 5:15 pm, thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Laidley, Hatton Vale, Allora and Rosewood. They are forecast to affect Ipswich, Marburg and Lowood by 5:30 pm and Brisbane Western suburbs and Fernvale by 5:45 pm.

Yes,

It takes all 3 of these to generally create a storm:

1. Heat, Evaporates the moister form lakes, steams, rivers, grass(Only a bit :=): )

2 Moister, For a local storm, Moister is required for the storm. This can also be humidity.

3. A weather front, This is usually what bring the cloud together to create the local storm.

Else:

To create an electric storm, Static electricity must be present in both the sky and the land.

- Sky

+ Bottom of clouds

- Land
