Vic. Labor Rec Fisho`s Bribe Offerings.

DANIEL ANDREWS |

NOVEMBER 17, 2014

An Andrews Labor Government will invest $35 million to phase out commercial netting, upgrade fishing clubs and increase the number of recreational fishers to one million by the year 2020.

Under Labor’s plan, Target One Million, we will encourage more Victorians to take up a great pastime which currently contributes $2.3 billion to Victoria’s social and economic wellbeing.

Labor will:

• Allocate $20 million to halt commercial netting in Port Phillip and Corio Bays over eight years, increasing fish stocks for recreational anglers and offering a clear and fair exit strategy for licence holders. Labor will impose a sliding cap on the commercial catch, based on the average catch over the previous three years. The cap will reduce each year to prevent licence holders from expanding their operations. Labor will also ban netting at the mouth of the rivers in the Gippsland Lakes.

•

Establish a $10 million Better Fishing Facilities Fund to develop new recreational fishing reefs, improve boat launching facilities and access to waterways, and install fish cleaning tables and fish aggregating devices.

•

Invest $5 million in Target One Million’s stocking and education programs. Under the plan, all fishing clubs will be eligible for ‘Stronger Fishing Clubs’ grants of up to $2000 to promote membership and fishing in their community. Labor will also implement a marine species stocking program in Victoria’s drought-affected bays and inlets and increase fish stocks from 3 million to 5 million a year. School education and children’s fishing programs will also be established with Parks Victoria.

Labor will also take action to maintain Lake Toolondo as Victoria’s best trout fishing location, open recreational trout cod fisheries in Beechworth and aim to stock 15,000 one year old barramundi into Hazelwood Pondage to create a new recreational fishery for the Latrobe Valley. In addition, no new marine parks will be established under Labor.

The Napthine Coalition Government made life harder for fishers, cutting funds to Fisheries Victoria and sacking a record number of researchers. In Victoria, 750,000 people currently participate in recreational fishing.

Coalition Says $65 million Better Bay Plan

A re-elected Napthine Government to deliver $65 million Better Bay Plan

Recreational fishing mecca for Port Phillip Bay and Corio Bay with $20 million

over four years for buyback of commercial licences Napthine Government committed to protecting Victoria’s beaches, strengthening coastal communities and boosting recreational fishing Port Phillip Bay will be protected and restored for all Victorians to enjoy under a re-elected Victorian Coalition Government.

Premier Denis Napthine today unveiled a $65 million Better Bay Plan and announced that

commercial netting in Port Phillip Bay and Corio Bay will be phased out.

Dr Napthine said the comprehensive plan focused on preserving and rehabilitating one of the

state’s best assets, while also building important community infrastructure to enable more

people to enjoy the picturesque Port Phillip Bay.

A re-elected Napthine Government’s Better Bay Plan will deliver:

A $20.5 million investment into new and upgraded bike paths around Port Phillip Bay;

$16.7 million to protect the bay against the impacts of erosion, litter and marine pests;

$4.29 million to upgrade and improve fishing piers; and

$3.07 million for Beach Patrol volunteers and investment into Surf Life Saving Clubs.

“Port Phillip Bay is one of the many assets that makes Melbourne the world’s most livable city and makes Victoria the best state in Australia,†Dr Napthine said.

“Our Better Bay Plan is the only integrated strategy to keep the Bay beautiful and enhance its

amenity for more people to enjoy.

“We will deliver this $65 million initiative because Port Phillip Bay is the heart of Victoria, it’s where we spend time with our friends and families and it is definitely worth protecting for

future generations,†Dr Napthine said.

Dr Napthine said the Victorian Coalition Government was also committed to improving

recreational fishing opportunities for Victorians and if re-elected, would allocate $20 million

over four years towards a buyback of commercial licences for Port Phillip Bay and Corio Bay.

“This will significantly improve recreational fishing opportunities through greater fish numbers in the bay, which will in turn boost the recreational fishing industry and see benefits flow on to local businesses.â€

“Our vision is for Port Phillip Bay and Corio Bay to be recreational fishing meccas for locals

and visitors,†Dr Napthine said.

The $20 million funding commitment over four years would provide a fair and equitable exit

strategy for licence holders and the buyback would be phased to minimise the impacts to the

commercial fishing industry.

An independent panel would be established to make recommendations to the Coalition

Government on how the buyback would be structured and commercial netting will be phased

out. The panel would consult with the relevant peak bodies such as the Seafood Industry

Victoria and Victorian Recreational Fishing (VRFish) and key stakeholders Future Fish,

Australian Fishing Trading Association and others.

that result was all over red rover very quickly. Now they have to pick the opposition electorates to rip off to pay for the rec fisho`s bribes.

When one thinks of our politicians one could easily come to the conclusion that Guye Fawkes was the only man to enter parliament with honest intentions
