Briz Riv gateway to the Port. 30-07-24

So today was interesting.....had a solo run into the River.....hoping to beat the winds so I launched at 5.30....the only trailer in the car park all day....nice not to have to deal with others...

Well it was cold enough to break out the beaver hat and it stayed on my head until about 9am....changed to my other hat for the brim so i could read the sounder.  

Anyhow, first jew on the second cast    about 72cm, another one on the 4th cast about 30cm, the 5th cast saw my one piece rod have a hernia....hmmm   

So i grabbed another rod and about 20 mins later another just undersized jew hits the deck as the sky was lighting up.

A procession of small bream and legal flathead kept me interested for the next 3 hours....maybe 10 or so bream and maybe 7 or 8 flathead.

Went exploring the southern bank up near the old dry dock at Colmslie and worked my way back to the Gateway...a few bream through that stretch, then 4 snapps at 55cm in consecutive casts right under the bridges.

Spent the next few hours sounding between the gateway and the Pinky ramp dropping on rock/rubble patches...mentally noting where they are for the future. Some decent fish through the run but I could not entice a bite out of them.

Quick run out to the Port for the run in....found a school of large midwater fish in the channel, kept them company for about an hour while they flicked the bird at me....hint taken, I came home.

Nice day on the water, even nicer I had the river to myself apart from Tangalooma boats and tug boats.

hot dogs for dinner again.

That's a top day in anyone's book. Just the right ratio of wins to teases.

Nearly all on Zman 2" curl tail grub in motor oil and on a 20 gram jighead to beat the current

all fish deeper than 10m

Poured some new jigheads on Mustad 3/0 hooks    gonna give them a miss in the future    see if i can find some old stock matzuos again

Had to look Matzuo up. I see they sell them at Amazon.

Matzuo went broke about 6 years ago i guess

There are knockoffs about but there is still a few ridgy didge hooks about
