Identify disease in luderick

Hi Forum friends, 

Caught 1.5 lb luderick today on northern beaches. While filleting I noticed a growth on inside of the flesh, near gut pouch area. There was also some dark discoloration in the area.

Does anyone know what it is, Tumor..?..worm pouch?

Probably one for @Andrew P or @Daryl McPhee. Cut it out and cook the fillet lol.

Likely an encysting trematode (worm). Very common in mulloway not so common in luderick. They pose no threat to humans if consumed but most people pull or cut them out of their fillets cos they don’t look very appetising!

Wow. I have caught a lot of Blackfish, never seen that before.

It does look like a trematode cyst. Fish is safe to eat.
