The only down side to the win is that Gus Gould will take the credit. That will leave a bad taste in Barrett’s mouth, so maybe not all bad.

Another top day on the water. I was surprised how murky the water was, even at the top of the tide. So nice eating fresh caught whiting last night. Thanks again, @ellicat

One of my brothers-in-law used to work on prawn trawlers and I remember him telling me how they used to add sodium meta bisulphate to the catch while singing “one tonne of meta” to the tune of “Guantanamera”. They did it to stop the heads and feet from going black. -
And he’s back!! Good to see you nailing the snaps again, Darren. Hopefully a good season coming up. I took my nephew who was visiting from Norway down the port last week. Weather wasn’t good enough to go too far so we fished the murky water around the mouth and managed one snap of only 45cm but still a good sign for the winter. Hope to see you on the water sometime over the snapper season.

Not sure what model this Alvey is but it is very old and the spool is 3.5” and bakelite. Hope this helps. I am not the the world’s best photographer so let me know if you need more detail.

Hi Bob, welcome to the site. I have seen videos of fishing in those Thai fishing parks for arapima. They are an impressive looking fish and what a great sustainable way of targeting them. Looking forward to seeing some reports.

The attachments aren’t working for me. Sand in it doesn’t sound good. Any salt water get into the reel. Sand and salt will kill a spinning reel very quickly. You can strip it down if you are careful. Lots of YouTube videos that tell you how.

Do you know why your friend made that recommendation? Could just be a brand preference for them - some people are rusted on Shimano or Diawa fans. They are both good brands and similar level reels so you would be fine with both. If you are new to beach fishing and using a spinning reel, be careful to keep sand and salt water away from the reel. Using one of those poly rod holders will give you somewhere to put the reel out of the sand when you are baiting up or dealing with a fish. Give the reel a good rinse with fresh water and add a drop of oil to the line roller after each trip to the beach and your reel will last a lot longer. Good luck!

Ok, so he says Princess 11 is a good charter at a good price, but there can sometimes be a fair bit of travel for not a lot of fish when fishing the reefs inside the bay. Hervey Bay Fly and Sportsfishing is a sure winner, but is definitely not in the same price range. Hope this helps.

I’ll probably see him tomorrow. I know Andrew Chorley’s Hervey Bay Fly and Sportsfishing is very well regarded for day trips. Not cheap but those guys know how to put you onto great fishing. I will report back after I have seen the bro-in-law.

I am finding it difficult to follow exactly what you are asking. In the first post you had a 410 dart and you wanted to know if you could put an electric motor on it if you used your 6hp motor. Then you have a 350 explorer (or is it a 310) and you said you were keeping the motor but selling the hull, now you want to upgrade something. Maybe post again and tell us exactly what you have now and what you want to achieve? First, though, check your compliance plate to see what is the maximum size motor allowed for that hull and maximum number of people you can have in the boat.

HI @Ed.. My brother-in-law used to deckie on the charter boats in Hervey Bay. I am in the Bay at the moment so I will ask him for his recommendation. Are you looking for a day charter inside the Bay chasing pelagics and golden trevally etc, or a multi-day trip fishing offshore from Fraser?

He went exceptionally well. The Cowboys had the run of play for most of the game and his running game was a big part of that. They were unlucky not to win as were the Broncos who led the feather dusters most of the game.
