  1. Thanks @Barry Oliver, that is fantastic info. Very helpful.
  2. Glad to hear you threw it back, considering how endangered they are. Did you get a pm from @kmcrosby78 yet, asking for the GPS coordinates?
  3. Classic Blakesleys photo there @Allnighter. Especially the hundred footprints in the sand from dragging your stuff up to the camp. Really nice meeting you there today mate. Hope we can catch up for a fish sometime. Stay warm tonight.
  4. Thanks @Barry Oliver. That info is great and I am looking foto your results in an on-water test. I have read before about not running deep cycles below a certain level but still not sure how to know when you have hit that level?
  5. Should be plenty of water in the middle of the day Brian. I know that area pretty well so if I come with you we will be right.
  6. Interesting post. My setup is very similar to @Allnighter. 4.35m tinny with 40hp 2 stroke Yammie on the back and a 55lb MK on the front. The electric runs on a deep cycle 120AH lead acid battery. It is in one of the hatches at the front and I have Anderson plugs on a break in the cable, and an Anderson plug on the 9 stage charger which I bought at Jaycar. Good info above about the current draw because I have never known how much power the electric soaks up. Down the back I have a 110AH AGM deep cycle to run the sounder/bilge pump/Nav lights/live bait pump. It is connected to the outboard for charging (motor is pull start) but since I put the deep cycle there I have never been confident that it is charging off the outboard. I had a look in my owner’s manual this arvo and it mentions an alternator but not a rectifier. I will be watching this topic with interest.
  7. Not that much, but if the labour cost is $40 and parts might be $30, and you can get a new manual inflatable for under $100 then you can see where I am going.
  8. @GregOug, honestly if you are not going to service the jackets yourself, which is extremely quick and easy, you might as well just buy a new one each year. If you look for specials, the cost of servicing plus parts would not be much less than the cost of a new jacket.
  9. Great times @kmcrosby78 3 generations on the water at the same time - how special is that.
  10. Heaps of great videos on YouTube with good info on fishing the Fitzroy that might unlock a few of those secrets. Looks like a top class fishery since it went net free.
  11. Surprisingly the carpark was less than half full and very few boats fishing where we were. Turned into a lovely day once it warmed up. @Drop Bearyou need to make more free time to get out there.
  12. Had a quick trip to the Port of Brisbane today with my youngest boy. We were going to head out into the Bay, but when we got to the ramp at the crack of 7.30am I decided to wimp out because it was a bit brisk to be travelling too far in shorts and a flannie so we just fished the port area. Tide was running out the whole time, but we still managed a few keepers. I was hoping for a few snaps before the closed season. I couldn’t land a single squire but my son just kept hooking up on undersize models. We also landed a few undersize tailor but no keepers. Gave it away around lunchtime.
  13. Pipped me on the flathead @Kat, I got a 60cm model today. Also got this 50cm cod:

    masks

If you are outdoors and can keep 1.5 metres from people who are not in your household you don’t need a mask, but you must carry a mask at all times. That is my understanding.
  15. I thought he was just practicing for The Targa rally.
  16. Thanks for that, mate. I was bored, now I am carsick!
  17. Are there 2 videos, @ellicat? The top one doesn’t work for me (looks the same as Hamish’s vids last week) and then there is a second one that is just a bit longer than my attention span that keeps wanting to buffer. Glad to hear you had a good trip.

  19. Before you dispose of it you have to take the battery out. I have read that a lot of “emergencies” are located at the local tip.
  20. I have been looking at EPIRBS as well Kat. The GPS models are more accurate in fixing your position. Here is one I was looking at https://www.anacondastores.com/water-sports/boating-essentials/gme-406mhz-gps-enabled-epirb/BP90091821 I don’t take my boat places where an EPIRB is mandatory but do go places where people have recently died and may not have died if they had an EPIRB.
  21. Might have to change your login from @Newbie to Brisbane to @fishingguidebrisbane. Looking forward to more reports. Thanks for sharing.
  22. Not trying to start a catfight, but should undersize fish be counted?
  23. No action yet @GregOug. Not in a great rush.
  24. Epic journey @benno573. My memory of going anywhere with toddlers involved a bootful of kiddie paraphernalia and a small backpack for myself, so kudos to you just for packing for that trip. Was it just you and your crew or was it a larger group. Did you have to carry all your food and water or were there food drops? Great report by the way - perfect lockdown reading.
  25. Why are you wearing my shirt and shoes, not to mention my scaly old hands?
