  2. Here you go Greg https://support.garmin.com/en-AU/?faq=BzthnHQrMb4fRIZCKLnum6 I always try to remember to turn the unit off before returning to the ramp, and always run it on simulator mode if I am playing with it (the unit that is) in the shed.
  3. A couple of near misses there fellas. Seems to be the routine lately - a few unders and a couple of unstoppables per trip mixed in with the odd keeper. @ellicatI reckon if you weren’t using that Gliss wtf you would have nailed your pb snapper right there and then.
  4. Those are two nice additions to your boat Greg that should make your fishing easier and more rewarding. They did a nice job fitting the Garmin. I wasn’t sure how they would fit the bigger unit but it looks great. That anchor will be a game changer for you after the small unit you had on before. Looking forward to some good reports now.
  5. Good save @Neil Stratford. Your deckie’s misfortune is the exact reason I put a ladder onto the step on the stern of my tinnie. Age catches up with all of us and pulling yourself back into a boat does not get any easier. Has Ray has his knee op yet?
  6. Welcome to the forum @Meeuwissen. That family photo looks like Brunswick Heads - lovely spot. If you are looking for a spot to try with your tinny in Hervey Bay, try Gatakers Bay up the northern end of the Bay. Good protection from any wind with south in it and you don’t have to go far to find coral bommies that can hold reasonable reef fish at times. Not GBR fishing, but easy in a small boat. Good luck with the job search in Port Douglas. That is another lovely spot. Not a lot there except tourism which will be slow until the international borders reopen.
  7. Classic looking snapper. And a very nice Jew. Good idea to change tactics early. Thanks for sharing.
  8. Accumulation innings. Hot out there today?
  9. I am not familiar with that motor, but it looks similar to a Minn Kota in the locking mechanism. I doubt your idea would be successful for a couple of reasons. To release the motor you need to press down on a lever arrangement and I can’t see a rope being able to do that. Secondly, having the head unit and a fair length of shat coming through the break in the windscreen will make it uncomfortable and almost impossible to easily deploy your normal anchor. @ellicat‘s idea might work but looks a bit awkward. And you would have to mount it on the other side of the boat because of the direction the shaft goes when you pull it up to stow. Don’t forget the unit is probably at least 1.7 metres long so if you mounted it on an angle like that it may be protruding outside the line of your gunnels - not a great idea. Do you have bow rails up front? Do you already have a mounting bracket? If you do, that will give a clue as to how the manufacturer saw the installation going. If you are buying through a dealer, ask them for advice. Good luck.
  10. Always cleaned Robbie. Next time I will drop it back to 4 minutes and see how they go and work back from there.
  11. That is a good read, but it raises 2 questions for me. He mentions an area at the mouth of the Brisbane River that is closed to crabbing. Anyone know where that might be? And he says he cooks his crabs (cleaned) for 2.30 minutes. I have always cooked sandies for 5 to 7 minutes once the water returns to the boil and always clean my crabs first. They always taste great, but am I overlooking them?
  12. Could have been really nasty @Dinodadog. Hopefully you didn’t damage your new knee.

    NRL 2021

Me too. As usual I will be relying on the 3 Qld teams to get me up top of the leaderboard. Worked so well for me last year.
  14. Usually I would say another great day on the water, but on this occasion the conditions were pretty ordinary. Fortunately the company was good and we managed a few good fish at the end of the day. The bust offs were exciting but a bit frustrating. It was amazing to catch tiny snaps on whole mullet that were bigger than the fish. There was no shortage of those baby snaps and they were hungry. Thanks for the day @ellicat. A highlight was seeing you get your first legal snapper onboard the Ellicatch. May there be many more.
  15. @FadKing, you will be very happy with any of those options. I don’t know what gear your BIL has been lending you, so I don’t know if you are used to a fibreglass rod or a composite rod like those mentioned above. If you haven’t used a composite rod, just be a bit careful with it because although they are remarkably strong if used properly it is easy to snap them if you don’t use them correctly. Don’t “highstick” the rod and if you are changing bait/lure, don’t pull the line down parallel to the rod. Sorry if you already know this stuff. Plenty of info on YouTube about correct use of a composite carbon/graphite rod. Enjoy your new gear and welcome to the expensive hobby of tackle collection. You will be hooked soon and wondering where all your spare cash has gone!
  16. Welcome to the site @Charlie_big_papa. I can’t help with the Yamba spots, but gotta say that is quite the fishing photo album you have there. Looking forward to seeing some reports from you in the future.

    Mr

Welcome to AFO. Any chance you may have misheard him, and he said mullet gut? That used to be a really popular bait for bream. I haven’t heard of mullygar, but someone else may have.
  18. What a champion you are, Ray. And congratulations Hamish. I doubt it will be your last fishing award, and I am sure you will pick up a few academic awards along the way.

    Leakage

Looks like the pump is working fine, Emma. The water is sucked through the slots on the side, not through the bottom. You should clean some of that excess silicone off the bottom before you use fresh silicone to attach it again.

    Leakage

Hi Emma. I have 2 suggestions for you: To find the leak, fill that area up with fresh water. You can add a bit of food colouring to make seeing any water leaks easier, but you may not want to add that in case you stain your fibreglass gel coat. Hopefully you will be able to see where the water is coming from if there is a leak. secondly, I would be surprised if that boat did not have a bilge pump installed so you can pump out any water while you are still out there? Check where all your switches are and see if one is labelled as bilge or bilge pump. Then test to see if it is working. You will hear a sort of humming sound if it working. If you don’t hear anything you should get it fixed because it is an important safety item. Good luck!
  21. Yep, I have an older model that I bought second hand from a member on this site, probably 10 years ago. Still going strong, except the drag clicker doesn’t work any more and I have already replaced that once so it is staying silent. And the handle knob dissolved a few years ago and replacement handles are crazy expensive. So I don’t use it too often anymore. My understanding is that they are a high end reel for Shimano, dearer than the Saragosa but cheaper than the Stella. Heaps of drag available.
  22. Love that post, Henry. The pictures tell the story beautifully as usual. I don’t know where Ray gets his energy from.
