  1. I was hoping you wouldn’t mention that. You know how jealous @kmcrosby78 gets. It was a good day out, Brian, even if the fish didn’t play the game.
  2. Some relevant info here http://www.jackerskine.com/hitech_carbontex.html. Scroll down to the bit under “Important information”. Pretty much supports opinions above.
  3. If you are talking about Flinders Reef near Moreton Island, make sure you check the green zone boundaries before you start fishing. Could be an expensive trip if you don’t.
  4. Hi @Sneaky1. If you just want the drag upgrade and not a service, why not do it yourself? You can get Carbontex washers at reasonable prices at http://www.jackerskine.com/hitech_carbontex.html. They also recommend and sell Cal grease to wet the washers. You don’t need to be a professional to change drag washers. There are plenty of videos on the www to get you started.
  5. Very nice @ellicat. You are putting together quite the fishing weapon. Just need an electric and a dashboard cigarette lighter and you will have the complete unit......
  6. Not as busy as it has been, Brian. Plenty of spaces at the ramp.
  7. Generally more success on plastics, Hamish. Not today though.
  8. DONUT WARNING - do NOT read this if you are easily bored, or are expecting action photos or descriptions of epic piscatorial battles.. Haven’t been out for a fish for a couple of weeks so decided today was the day. With snapper off the target list at present I decided on a lizard hunt, using lures and plastics only. With the wind forecast to get up in the Bay and a lunchtime low tide, I thought I might pick up a couple down at the mouth of the Brisbane River. I started out at Boggy Creek, tossing plastics up onto the sand banks and hopping them back to the boat. Did this for an hour or so then decided to have a troll along the edges with hardbodies. Not a touch, so moved back to a couple of spots that have produced previously. Same deal, no touches. Headed closer to the mouth and fished the channels and banks in front of Nudgee for nothing. Tried trolling along the wall at the end of the port for zilch and called it a day. I guess the solunar tables were right - today was a poor day for fishing. Still, the wind was better than predicted so it was a beautiful day to be on the water. Next time I will take back up bait as usual. Interesting that a few boats were fishing in areas where the target species would usually be snapper, but maybe they were targeting cod? Anyway, we all have a donut from time to time, but it has been a while sine I haven’t had a single touch in 4 hours of fishing. Tight lines everyone.
  9. You know there is always a spot on my tub for you, @benno573. Of course you know what an unfortunate history I have of making accidental bait knife contact with my deckie’s line when I see a trophy fish being played. That would never happen in a comp though - especially if you were representing the enemy.
  10. Maybe a compromise might be to run 3 fixtures that last one week, starting say on Saturday and ending on a Friday. Purely selfish reasons for me - since I finished work I have a strong preference for not fishing weekends. Just a thought. Thanks for kicking it off again @christophagus.
  11. Wow! The cost of those fillets just went up by a few $ per kilo. Glad you made it home safe and sound.

    Nrl 2020

As along time Broncos fan, that performance was just sad. Maybe the whole team should go back to the Q cup for the rest of the season, although I am not sure they would be competitive in that field either. They just don’t have the intensity, line speed or commitment the other teams (even the Bulldogs) have, and just look slow and tired. Saddest part of the whole night was the Seibold press conference - poor guy had nothing he could say except they have 15 of 36 players out injured. I get that, but it doesn’t mean the other 21 can’t give it a red hot crack. I don’t even get disappointed when they lose now because I expect it. 2020, what a sh#t year.

    Wow!

I saw an electric boat at the boat show last year. Very interesting. It will be great when it becomes mainstream. Cheap to run, more reliable, quiet, easy start, less maintenance. If I could afford a Tesla I would probably have one by now. A lot of countries, including China, already have target dates for the end of combustion engines in vehicles, so marine applications can’t be too far behind.
  14. I know it has been mentioned many times in posts on this forum but I thought it might be worthwhile to make a separate topic letting everyone know that we have now entered the one month closure for snapper and pearl perch in Qld. A mate who is not on this or other fishing forums called me yesterday to see when we were going snapper hunting and that made me realise that it would be easy to miss these changes. Let’s hope it has the desired effect long term. Here is further info. http://statements.qld.gov.au/Statement/2020/7/2/snapper-and-pearl-perch-spawning-closure
  15. Fingers crossed @GregOug. I couldn’t see the 5000 reel advertised on that site but if it is real it will be the bigger brother of the 3000 HG FL that I bought recently for $290. On that site he does have a Stradic 3000 for $51. The colours look the same as the C14+, and Shimano do make a 3000HG, but not sure that the details on the spool match? Was the 5000 you ordered silver or red? It will be very interesting to see what turns up.
  16. Beautiful part of the world, that’s for sure. I am excited about seeing some reports from BC. Welcome to the site.
  17. Weight might be another factor to consider. I have an 8000D baitrunner. It is great for baitfishing with circle hooks when you can just leave it sitting in the rod holder as @ellicatsaid, but it is quite a heavy reel and I wouldn’t want my spaghetti arms casting with it for extended periods. Horses for courses I guess.
  18. Do you have it on an extendable pole? Not sure where you are located, but here in Qld the allround white light has to be at least one metre above the Nav lights. Might be different in other states.
  19. Nice report @Hweebe. Hard to beat fresh whiting, chips and salad for lunch.
  20. Welcome @Mattblack. Looking forward to seeing some reports from down your way. Is the snapper fishing in PPB as good as the TV fishos say it is since the netters were moved out?
  21. Grunter, or barred javelin fish. Delicious!
  22. Looking at that last photo, looks like you really did get on the sauce Mark!
  23. Nice fish and great photos, @Cobiaaddict. Those conditions look brilliant.
  24. Thanks @jon. That was the first spot I tried. Definitely fish there but just not on the chew at that time. @tugger, Great tip there, but I am not much of a night fisherman these days. Interferes with cocktail hour.
